Captain America: Super Soldier

After playing the awful Iron Man 2, I decided it would probably be best to skip all of the other Marvel movie tie-ins. Then I was seduced by the fantastic Captain America, and I could not have made a better choice. Super Soldier essentially plays like Batman: Arkham Asylum 1.5, with the same combat and dodge mechanics. The only area that the game doesn’t rip off Arkham Asylum is the hacking, which is so stupidly simple that it really begs the question: “Why the hell did they even include this?” After using much of the same stuff from Arkham Asylum, the game actually takes a second to make sure Captain’s acrobatics play out in a fun way by making all platforming sections feel like a mini rhythm game. And it is SO FUN. It’s crazy simple, but when you get into the rhythm of the platforming, it just looks and feels great. Really, I don’t have much bad to say about the game other than the voice acting can be completely horrid, but if you play it on mute, then you’re sure to be treated to a fun, action-packed, cinematic experience.

Ok, I hated AA. Don’t tell me this one has essential detective vision too. Ugh.

Actually, that’s another thing that Cap didn’t rip off. There is a focus vision that you use to slow time so you have an easier time aiming your shield, but outside of the tutorial you never have to use it unless you want to. I use it all the time because it makes me feel like a complete badass to bounce the shield off of 8 guys, though.

That actually sounds pretty cool. I could like this game.

AA definitely isn’t the worst game to rip off. If you’re gonna make a game based on a comic book then it is really the only good example.

I disagree. The best comic book game yet was “The Ultimate Spiderman” last gen.

I’ve been staring at this comment for almost a week and I can’t decide whether or not if it is trolling me. I don’t know that you would say that just to rile me up, but you might.

Haha, nope. I recall saying that AA was the best one under that review, but I forgot about last gen.

Sometimes I wonder if I was the only one on this site that played a lot of games last gen. (Granted, I was an assistant manager at Gamestop so I had unlimited free rentals and killer deals). I still play my PS2 and currently own 64 of the best PS2 games out there. The only things I didn’t play much of were first person shooters and sports games (which accounts for a lot of games), but ask me about most cult classics or major hits and I can probably tell you all about them.

Further, I think you would absolutely love Ultimate Spider-Man. Much like Batman, it’s a comic book come to life, like you’re jumping right out of a frame.

Gamecube and Xbox still count as “last gen.”

Believe it or not, last gen, I only had a gamecube, and all but a few of my games were Nintendo IPs. Mario Party, Mario Tennis, Mario Kart, Zelda, Metroid, and the like…That’s just how I rolled back then. Getting married and all, I had to ease my wife into the hours that I spend gaming now. It took the latter half of that gen, the earlier half I spent in Poland.

As far as Spiderman goes, I watched a video of it and I think the at one point I might have liked it, but by now I don’t know that I would

Yeah, and unlike you guys, before last gen I am relatively clueless.

When I first got a Wii, I bought about 15 Gamecube exclusives with it, so I know some of those, but as far as the original Xbox goes I’m completely in the dark. I remember wanting Fable, Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic, Elders Scrolls, Dead or Alive, and some others, so bought an Xbox 360, but then my PS2 broke, so I sold my Wii, all my Nintendo games, and the 360 to buy the 60 gig PS3 before I got around to playing any of the older Xbox exclusives. I still wish I had kept those games and systems though, so I made a personal vow to never trade in or sale another game or system again, thus, my current collection of 141 games on disc (just counted). haha.

    Yes, I’m that lame.
