Mass Effect 3

Piecing together a rag-tag team of bad-ass aliens and traversing the universe in search of evil to kick in the teeth is what made me fall in love with the Mass Effect series.  Mass Effect 3 is missing that magic.  Maybe I played the game wrong, but I only had three team members throughout the entire game, and I disliked all of them. Any time a former teammate made a cameo appearance, I would get my hopes up that everything would return to normal.  We’d reminisce about old times, but none of them ever rejoined my crew.  That left me with only a handful of generic characters with whom I shared no connection.  Despite general improvements to the series, including updated visuals and combat, I frequently found myself bored with the game.  The locations were bland, the story uninteresting, and my decisions didn’t seem to have any significant effects.  I hesitate to say this is a bad game, because there were portions that I enjoyed. I just feel my time would have been better spent playing Mass Effect 2 again.

If it's worse than ME2, that's saying something. I've been trudging through ME2 for about 4 months now. I quit after every mission. Gathering teammates is really boring and repetitive. I just can't stay interested.

Ned, did you ever try Mass Effect 1? That's kind of how I felt about the first game, and even though I've been told ME2 is much better, I never could bring myself to give the series another chance.

The only reason I was able to get through Mass Effect 1 was because I was living in my parents' basement at the time... ME2 on the other hand was actually pretty awesome.

I actually much prefer ME1 to any of the other games and it was one of the first games to get me to actually play my 360. I dislike ME2 for the toned down RPG elements so I figured I would have enjoyed ME3 since they beefed up the RPG stuff, but it still felt kind of empty. And don't even get me started on the story... ugh.

Mass Effect 1 was very highly recommended by a friend and was a major selling point for me to eventually get an Xbox 360. I found ME2 for $20 with all the DLC for PS3 and got that as well as ME3 on launch to motivate me to finish 2, but that hasn't worked.
