SSX

SSX was one of the first “extreme” sports games I ever played and enjoyed, so I was pretty excited to hear that we were finally getting a current generation SSX game. Unfortunately, the end product is kind of disappointing. This new SSX focuses much, much more on realism than the previous games ever did. In fact, to survive racing and tricking down the most dangerous mountainsides in the world, you must actually learn to equip your rider with different armor and boards made specially for whatever kind of track you’re facing. Even with your boarder completely prepared to face the dangers of snowboarding, though, you’ll still find yourself often retrying a course, because the AI is ridiculously perfect. Fortunately, the soundtrack is fantastic, so if you can put up with the pain in the ass AI, you’ll at least have some nice ear candy to keep you company. If you have the patience to retry a single course a lot, then this game might just be for you, but I personally found it frustrating to no end.
