Tekken 6

Tekken 6 is evenly divided into two parts. There’s the traditional, kick-ass fighting mode and a new campaign mode that is just plain awful. The campaign feels like a really crummy beat ‘em up. The only reason people are playing this mode online is to unlock achievements. But here’s the worst part: any items you collect in the campaign can only be equipped on the character you used with the costume you used. Why the same costume?! The whole thing is ridiculous, but as soon as you switch over to the versus mode, Tekken feels like an entirely different product. This is a really great, really great-looking fighter with more characters than I know what to do with. And it’s not like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat where you need to memorize button combos in order to spew fire or fling shurikens. Experienced players will certainly find their own combos that work for them, but it’s really just about blocking at the right time and countering when appropriate. And that’s all I need from a fighter.

Honest review. I'm a big Tekken Fan! It didn't expand much from Tekken 5 though imo, especially for being a "next gen." title. I'll buy it and keep it, but I'm waiting for the bargain bin. I already have all the other Tekken games to keep me company.

I grew up loving the 2D Mortal Kombat games, so I've never given Street Fighter a fair chance. I tried Soul Caliber but it didn't stick. In your review you mentioned memorizing combos for more experienced players. Well, that's me. I love memorizing 6-10 hit combos and special moves. What are your Favorites?

I played a lot of Street Fighter, Killer Instinct, and Fighter's Destiny as a kid, but ever since Smash Bros on the N64 came out, I've become more of a casual fighter fan. There's a Japanese DS game called Jump Ultimate Stars that's like Smash Bros but with anime characters. It's really fun. Soul Calibur is probably my favorite "serious" fighting game, though.
