The Amazing Spider-Man

I want to say that The Amazing Spider-Man is unlike any Marvel movie game I’ve played before, but after some time, I have to say that it’s pretty much just Captain America with more polish. That means ANOTHER ARKHAM ASYLUM RIP-OFF. Seriously, that is the only thing that comes to mind while playing, as the combat works in the exact same way. There are even stealth sections which rely on the same type of Silent Predator gameplay Arkham Asylum is known for. This isn’t really a bad thing, though, because it is fun, but it’s slightly disappointing that a Spider-Man game barely feels like a Spider-Man game at all. Free roaming can be fun, but web swinging has had an overhaul from the last gen games and has really lost the fluid feel it used to have. Despite these drawbacks, the game does have some really top-notch, cinematic, action-packed fights, and the story is actually a pretty decent companion to the film. As long as you aren’t sick of crawling through vents or stealth, Batman-like gameplay, then you should have a blast.

I love me some Arkham, and I could always go for more of it, but then again, I don't know if that is going to apply to clones with characters I don't like as much.

I like the characters a ton, but the real problem I have with this game is that they try to rely on Spider-Man's enemies being scary like Batman's enemies... and they just aren't. They give you camera missions in the game that are pretty much the Riddler puzzles from Arkham Asylum and they keep hinting at supervillains that they constantly call scary and terrifying but if you actually know anything about Spidey you KNOW that Hydro Man and Sand Man are some of the most unscary villains ever. It just does not work because of the character set.

So I finished this today and just wanted you all to know that the last two hours or so of the story mode has some of the most frustrating and unfun gameplay that I've ever dealt with before. It wasn't bad enough to ruin the entire experience, but the last two hours are so bad that I almost just quit the game there.

I wasn't sold on it before, but now I'm even more not sold on it. Now you just made it sound like they took a clone of Arkham City, put it in the wrong tone, and gave it the Shank treatment. =)

Oh, I didn't mean they made the last levels hard from a gameplay standpoint like Shank, they just managed to make it unfun by taking your powers away and making you walk for about an hour.

Oh, that's stupid. Really stupid. Have you seen the movie? It was great!

Yep! I went and saw the movie on release and LOVED it! Really gives me hope for the next Spidey films. I just hope they can fit the clone saga into one of the next movies. I must admit, the game manages to add on to the movie really well. I haven't played a movie related game that expands on the movie's story this well since Batman Begins.
