I know some people who absolutely love Phase 10, the card game. I never have. I always think I like it, but then I play it again and realize that I don’t. It has very little to do with skill. It’s all about luck of the draw and luck of making random decisions. My wife likes it, and I like her, so I thought it’d be fun to play the iOS version together, but I was wrong. There is no multiplayer option. No pass n’ play. No online. Nothing! I paid $.99 for this terrible game, and the only good news is that all of the frustration and terribleness of playing the original is only amplified in the virtual world. You won’t believe how often you don’t get a turn, because all three computer players will get a perfect hand. Truthfully, it isn’t every game, but it’s often enough that I notice it. It’s an unforgiving game that becomes even more unforgiving when you turn the difficulty up. But no multiplayer? I mean, for this type of game, being able to play with a friend, even if it was pass n’ play, would make it tolerable. That more than anything is what makes Phase 10 a huge disappointment. The only thing worse would be an iOS Skip-Bo.
