Although Katamari Forever contains a great compilation of the franchise’s best levels and more extra content then ever before, I just can’t get into it. There are 34 maps with four modes to play them in, and along with the update to 1080p, there are optional graphical filters including wood, comic, classic, and default. This offers a huge variety of gameplay experiences without straying from the original format. With classic controls, excellent visuals, and a story that’s completely bonkers, it still comes up lacking. Perhaps the novelty has worn off. I would love it if it were my first encounter with Katamari, but as is, I feel like that old joy of success is now outweighed by the harsh punishments for failure. The King of the Cosmos will bombard you with asteroids and negative feedback if you fail and not acknowledge your victories. Although I would recommend this as the best current generation Katamari game, I can’t say that I enjoyed playing it. Why are you so hard on me, big purple king?
