Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom
I had mixed feelings about this now incredibly cheap November 2006 release. I kept switching between “this is totally Heavenly sword mixed with God of War!” and “I am so glad that I only paid six bucks for this.” The dialog is shabby, the story bland, the levels unbalanced, the camera a little finicky, and some bosses are nearly impossible to defeat. Why, then, did I just put 40-50 hours into beating it? Because I couldn’t put it down. Aside from its flaws, this is ultimately a very fun and addicting game. Dark Kingdom is primarily a hack-and-slash adventure, although you can play as a wizard, if you choose, from the three available classes and varied colors of upgradable armor. You can play with up to four players at once online, which I also found to be incredibly fun and pretty surprising, because, hey, what are people still doing in the online lobbies of this ancient game? Having a good time, that’s what. Would I recommend that you do the same? Absolutely.
Sounds like a good summer project for me.
Just make sure you make a lot of different saves as you go along because saving doesn’t replenish your health and manna. I got stuck on a mini boss with almost nothing and I’m not really sure how in the world I was able to beet him unscathed. Anyhow, I learned my lesson.
