Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

Despite its alluring box art, Tomb Raider has never held my interest until now. Maybe pulling the camera way out helped the developers focus on creating an engaging experience instead of being distracted by Lara’s butt. Whatever the case, Guardian of Light is a very good departure from the series. Lara once again finds herself traversing ruins and killing dinosaurs, only this time with a friend: the grappling hook. Oh, and Totec, the spear-wielding Aztec warrior, came, too. While twin-stick shooting is still the name of the game, the grappling hook and spear make for some unique puzzles. The different abilities make co-op more fun, and I already want to play again as Totec to get the full experience. The game was designed to be co-op, though, and I can’t imagine it’s very fun playing alone. My only real complaint about Guardian of Light is that it’s too easy. Checkpoints are numerous, and you only get sent back when both characters die. It’s still a fun game, though, and highly recommended if you can rope a friend into joining you.

You mean grapple a friend into joining you.

I remember Tomb Raider Legend being very much about Lara's butt. Whenever you climbed a ladder, the camera went right to that spot on her.

I played through the demo and didn't hate it, but it felt generic. Almost like a movie to video game.

Did you play it co-op? That's really the only way I can see this game being enjoyable.

The only problem I had with this game was the LACK of coop. Xbox sold it as part of the summer of arcade promotion as being an online coop game... which it wasn't until last week. I havn't even downloaded the patch and DLC for it because the game pissed me off so much because of that. The game was billed as a great coop game and single player 2nd. I wanted the best experience and they didn't deliver.

Aside from that, I heard good things about the game and will eventually get over my issues and play it... and not DL the next game from them in protest. Free DLC is nice, but it should have been finished first to be part of the promotion.

Yeah, I can sympathize with you there, Retom. The lack of online co-op at launch was inexcusable. Honestly, this game shouldn't have been part of the Summer of Arcade promo. I usually only play co-op locally, though, so it wasn't as big of an issue for me.

I can see why they did it, they had to get the game out in time to be part of summer of arcade, but it's still not right. From my understanding, though, the free DLC is their way of apologizing for the late addition of online.

I have to say, I played through this game single player and still had a blast. Granted, I have never played it co-op, and it was on the PC - I don't know if the game play differs significantly across platforms and game types - but playing alone did not hinder my enjoyment of this game in the slightest.
