While I did enjoy the original Tony Hawk, my fondest memories are from the series’ third offering.  So nostalgia isn’t a big factor for me in this package.  In fact, the more I play THPSHD, the more I miss THPS3.  This HD remake is lacking the customization introduced in THPS3, and the level designs aren’t as well attuned to building combos.  Some of the fun exploits have been corrected in this version, such as endlessly grinding between two walls, while other bugs have either been introduced or overlooked.  I can forgive these shortcomings, because the game is still entertaining, but the real kicker is the removal of local multiplayer.  If this were the first Tony Hawk game I ever encountered, I’m sure I would be in love with it.  The problem is that I know the series has so much more to offer.  If all you are looking for is a faithful recreation of the original, then Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD won’t disappoint.  For those hoping for a little more of an upgrade, maybe this isn’t the game for you.

I played a lot of THPS1, but then I also played a lot of THPS3 and THP8. In a series like this, it's hard to "downgrade" to an earlier version when each new release introduces something you can't part with.

Yeah, when it came out, I loved THPS1, but 3 was so much better. I haven't played 8 though.
